We are currently looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter (Plant) to join our successful team based at our Tarmac Cross Green Asphalt Plant in Leeds, Yorkshire.
The successful candidate will work 12-hour shifts on a 4 on / 4 off basis, rotating between 4-day shifts (7am – 7pm), 4 days off, and 4 night shifts (7pm – 7am). This role is easily accessible from Leeds, Rothwell, Oulton, Swillington, Garforth, Wetherby, Whinmoor, Oakwood, Bradford, Dewsbury, Wakefield, Headingley, Otley, Castleford, Pontefract, Halifax, and surrounding areas.

Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Fitter (Plant) will be part of the 24/7 engineering team at our Cross Green Asphalt Plant. Responsibilities include:
1. Carrying out scheduled, planned, and reactive mechanical maintenance activities safely to maintain plant condition and support weekly production schedules.
2. Ensuring timely completion of jobs, leading mechanical breakdown and planned repairs to ensure plant reliability and optimize performance, minimizing disruptions.
3. Owning small-scale projects and delivering them pragmatically and proactively.
4. Taking a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities.
5. Coordinating with contractors and suppliers on site.
6. Participating in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
7. Contributing to continuous improvement through observations and experience.
8. Welding and fabricating to a good standard.
9. Working with risk assessments and method statements.
10. Contributing to the development of safe working methods for repairs.
11. Maintaining and promoting health & safety rules, following company procedures, and challenging unsafe conditions.
12. Utilizing computerised maintenance management systems to record work, faults, spares, and repairs.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work independently. Proven experience in an industrial or factory environment is essential. Candidates should have:
* A recognised apprenticeship (preferably higher-level)
* ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential)
* Strong practical mechanical skills (conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens)
* Fault-finding abilities and repair skills
* Capability to undertake emergency repairs efficiently
* IT literacy and experience with PCs and company systems
* Ability to assess and control SHE risks
* Willingness to work overtime, including weekends and nights
