Overview
Three Senior Clinical Coders are invited to join the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in Cornwall. The role offers opportunities to engage with clinicians, validate clinical coding, and act as the lead coder for designated specialties. We are seeking candidates with extensive ICD-10 and OPCS 4 knowledge, complex coding rules, and application of national clinical coding standards. The department offers a comprehensive training and development structure and CPD for clinical coders and ACC coders.
We have 3 full-time vacancies. Remote or hybrid working will be considered for successful candidates. The Trust is transitioning to electronic working with the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) go-live in June 2026, which will increase remote working options in the future.

Main duties
* Carrying out complex clinical coding on a daily basis.
* Liaising with clinicians to improve documentation for clinical coding purposes.
* Dealing with complex coding queries.
* Participating in clinical coding audits and data validation.
* Mentoring trainee and less experienced clinical coders.

Qualifications
Essential:
* Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ).
* Minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above (or equivalent), including Maths, English and Science.
* ECDL or equivalent IT qualification.
Desirable:
* Supervisory qualification
* Willingness to undertake auditor qualification
Experience
Essential:
* Working in a coding department.
* Experience in participating in complex coding audits and validation.
* Experience of working with hospital-based computer systems.
* Experience with Windows packages and with clinicians, senior managers, and other NHS staff.
* Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
Desirable:
* Experience using data analysis and benchmarking tools.
