Job summary Interview Date: 6th July 2026 An exciting opportunity has arisen tojoin our Orthopaedics and Surgery team at Barnsley Hospital. The successfulcandidate will support the running of our trauma and elective services, andsurgical service including assessment of orthopaedic and surgical patientsthrough to the Discharge to Assess pathway. The post holder will be expected toparticipate in, and support, the return of a 7 day service. Successful applicants shoulddemonstrate an enthusiasm for working in an acute setting, with particularinterest in orthopaedics and surgery, and developing services forBarnsley patients. The post holder will provide specialist OT assessment andintervention within this speciality, as well as providing support to otherspecialities depending on service need. They should have leadership and teamworking skills, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills towork collaboratively with colleagues and patients. You will be expected to deputise in theabsence of the Occupational Therapist Team Lead; representing the orthopaedictherapy team and providing supervision. To advise patients, carers, relatives, colleagues on the safe use ofequipment, minor adaptations, treatment techniques, moving and positioning, inrelation to individual patients. To be competent in prescribing equipment, and have an in depth knowledgeof equipment available for patients and how it is accessed. Ensure that allissued equipment is used safely and correctly, following protocols. To accurately and effectively report and document any changes inpatients condition or progress to other relevant MDT team members. To provide specialist written reports, discharge summaries, riskassessments and other recommendations regarding individual needs as required bythe service. To represent the OT service and/or individual patients at MDT meetings,and case conferences to ensure the delivery of a co-coordinatedmultidisciplinary service. This will include discussion of patient care andpatient progress. To work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team liaising andworking with other trust staff in the management of the patients appropriate tothe medical service and with external agencies as required.
