Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for providing a comprehensive and high quality cancer nursing service to the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will lead and provide advanced nursing care to patients with lymphoma, leukaemia, and myeloma, with particular responsibility for enhancing the patient's experience of cancer treatment, ensuring continuity of care and influencing patient pathways. The post holder will be a clinical expert, sound educator, committed researcher and proficient leader.

Job responsibilities
* To communicate effectively with patients and families and use advanced clinical judgment to assess their needs and provide relevant support, information, education and advice where necessary.
* To discuss all treatment options with patients with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise to enable patients to make an informed choice. To act as a patient advocate when appropriate with respect for patient confidentiality, privacy and their diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements.
* To attend all relevant outpatient clinics, inpatient ward rounds and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications:
* First level registration
* Post-registration qualification in oncology relevant to specialty
* First Degree in health-related subject (or equivalent)
* Higher degree in health-related subject (or to undertake within a year of being in post)
* Recognised teaching qualification
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Post graduate diploma or relevant MSc
Experience:
* Experience in providing clinical services to patients with cancer in an acute setting
* Teaching experience
* Research experience
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:
* Broad understanding of cancer treatments and cancer pathways
* Knowledge and understanding of NICE guidance and government targets relating to cancer specialty
* Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
* Effective organisational and time management skills
* Ability to deliver formal lectures to a high standard
* Clear understanding of the Advanced Practice Nursing role and the associated responsibility and accountability
* Evidence of commitment to patient care initiatives and incorporation of cultural values into practice
* Ability to lead and influence staff
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills with particular ability to show empathy and consideration for others
* Evidence of innovative practice/evidence-based care
* Ability to set and monitor standards
* Ability to work under pressure
