If you're coming from a military engineering background and looking to move into the energy sector, this is a strong next step but there is a minimum technical requirement.
What you must hold
You must hold NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
This is essential due to the nature of the work on high-voltage infrastructure.
Resettlement Opportunity Available
If you're still in service, we can support a 2-3 week placement during your resettlement period, where you will:
* Get hands‑on exposure to HV environments
* Work alongside experienced engineers
* Understand systems, processes, and expectations
* Build real, site‑based experience before committing
This gives both you and the business confidence before a permanent move.
What the Role Looks Like
You’ll be working as a field‑based Service Engineer, supporting:
* HV/MV switchgear and transformers (415V-400kV)
* Sites across power generation, T&D, and industrial environments
This role involves:
* UK-wide travel
* Staying away during the week
* Working independently and within small teams
What You’ll Be Doing
* Maintenance, inspection, and servicing of HV electrical equipment
* Supporting reliability of critical infrastructure
* Working to RAMS, permits, and isolation procedures
* Completing accurate documentation and reporting
* Operating safely in high‑risk environments
What Transfers Well From the Military
You’ll be well suited if you have experience in:
* Electrical maintenance (plant, vehicles, aircraft, or systems)
* Power generation or distribution
* Working in structured, safety‑critical environments
* Following strict procedures and documentation
What You’ll Need
Essential
* NVQ Level 3 Electrical (or equivalent qualification)
* Hands‑on electrical engineering experience
* Strong understanding of safety and compliance
* Willingness to travel and stay away during the week
Desirable
* Experience in HV / utilities / industrial environments
* HNC in Electrical Engineering
