An exciting opportunity has become available for an aspiring Teacher to join a specialist SEN school in Tewkesbury as a Teaching Assistant. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and is committed to helping them access learning and develop both academically and socailly.
This supportive and nurturing setting works with students who benefit from a more personalised and structured approach to education. Many pupils have a range of special educational needs, including SEMH, autism, communication difficulties and learning barriers. The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide both academic and emotional support to students. The classes are small, allowing staff to build strong relationships with pupils and provide highly targeted support.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Supporting students with SEMH, behavioural and additional learning needs
* Helping pupils re-engage with learning in a supportive environment
* Building trusting relationships with students who may have experienced challenges in education
* Assisting the teacher with lesson delivery and classroom activities
* Supporting behaviour regulation using calm, consistent and trauma-informed approaches
* Encouraging confidence, independence and positive decision making

Experience in the following areas would be particularly beneficial:
* Complex SEN, Alternative Provision, PRU or SEMH settings
* Behaviour mentoring or SEN support roles
* Youth work or counselling backgrounds
* Residential care or support work
* Sports coaching or mentoring roles
You should:
* Be confident supporting students who may present challenging behaviour
* Have a calm, empathetic and consistent approach
* Be able to build strong relationships with young people
* Be adaptable and able to think on your feet
* Be passionate about making a positive impact on students' lives
