We are seeking a proactive, customer-focused Facilities Officer to join our Estates and Facilities Team at Avon and Somerset Police. This is a key role responsible for ensuring that our buildings, workspaces, and operational environments remain safe, secure and fit-for-purpose for our officers, staff and members of the public. As a Facilities Officer, you will be the first point of contact for building-related issues, providing an efficient and responsive service across a diverse and dynamic police estate. You will play an essential part in maintaining the smooth operation of our sites, supporting front‑line policing through high‑quality facilities management. Key Responsibilities Oversee health and safety on site, including fire safety, evacuations and contractor activity, and keep accurate compliance records. Carry out regular building inspections and ensure risk assessments are completed as required. Act as the main point of contact for all building‑related queries from staff, partners and visitors. Respond to enquiries from external groups and support open days and community events. Manage and maintain accurate records for premises, equipment and fleet assets. Assess facilities requests and work with staff and contractors to ensure timely and effective resolution. Support office moves, refurbishment work and major building projects. Coordinate the opening of new buildings and closing of sites no longer in use. Contribute to the development and improvement of building policies and procedures. Support the force’s sustainability aims by monitoring energy use and promoting reductions in waste and consumption. Use data and systems to identify and address energy inefficiencies. Monitor contractor performance and ensure services offer value for money. Manage contracts, procurement tasks, purchase orders and invoices in line with regulations. Prepare and present management information to support decision‑making. Oversee the daily operation of internal post and courier services. Supervise a team of site technicians & landscape gardener, supporting their development and managing performance. Deputise for the Facilities Manager as required. Skills and Experience Experience in building, facilities or estates management (public sector experience beneficial but not essential). Understanding of health and safety practices, compliance standards, and building safety requirements. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues and implement practical solutions. Ability to engage, build and main relationships with contractors, suppliers, staff, and operational teams. Excellent organisational abilities with the capacity to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Clear and confident communication skills, including the ability to support individuals unfamiliar with building systems or procedures. Good IT skills, including use of email, reporting systems and facilities management software. Ability to work independently, take ownership and demonstrate initiative.
