Clinical Nurse Specialist: Renal Failure and Acute Kidney Injury
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Renal Clinical Nurse Specialist Team at RCHT.
As a senior nurse with experience in the care and management of renal patients or acute medical nursing, the post holder will form part of the nursing leadership team for the Renal CNS service.
The Acute Kidney Injury CNS role is a new service and the successful applicant will be responsible for implementing and driving an AKI nursing service at RCHT with a focus on education and working alongside clinical teams to recognise and support patients with an AKI.
The post holder will also lead the chronic kidney disease CNS nurse team and support the wider renal CNS when required, alongside supporting vascular access for our renal patients.
The post holder will require a non medical prescribing qualification or be willing to work towards one.
A developmental Band 6 role may be considered for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
* Accountable Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Nephrology including haemodialysis treatment and service improvement.
* Based in the speciality of Nephrology.
* Highly experienced nurse who uses specialist knowledge and skills to support patients requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT), patients with an acute kidney injury (AKI), support the development of renal CNS services, education on renal conditions within the organisation, and liaise and collaborate with other CNS within the organisation.
* Take relevant history and clinical assessment to develop a management plan and evaluate its progress within the limits of knowledge and skills while being supported by medical and other multidisciplinary team members. Demonstrate clinical judgement and critical decision‑making skills based on established guidelines.
* Work under the supervision of the Consultant Nephrologist Team.
* Participate in service improvement, including research and development and clinical audit.
* Form part of the renal nurse leadership team. Participate in employee relations, rostering, training and education, and the appraisal process.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse.
* Non‑medical prescribing qualification or commitment to undertake one.
Experience
* Relevant nursing experience within the specialty.
* Teaching and education experience.
Skills
* Evidence of interpersonal professional relationships.
* Excellent verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
* Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
Salary
£49,387 to £56,515 a year, dependent on experience.
