Here at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, we are recruiting for a Specialist Paediatric Core MRI Radiographer.
Role
This post provides an ideal opportunity to be involved in the clinical imaging of a full range of paediatric specialities including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Cardiac and Foetal Medicine and Research studies. A proportion of the imaging is performed under General Anaesthesia so the post holder can work closely with multidisciplinary paediatric anaesthetic teams. The department strives to provide excellent patient‑focused care while offering an innovative learning environment to develop exceptional skills and knowledge in a wide range of specialist paediatric examinations. Candidates will be required to participate in 7‑day working over 365 days and must have a BSc (Hons) or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography / Imaging Sciences with registration with the HCPC and PVG scheme membership/disclosure check.
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
* Location: Royal Hospital for Children
* Contract: Permanent
* Hours: Full‑time (36 hours per week)
* Schedule: Sunday to Sunday, rostered 24/7 including public holidays
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and understand a wide range of clinical information from various disciplines and perform examinations autonomously, making decisions about the need for further imaging while ensuring accurate, diagnostic images that comply with professional and legal standards.
* Maintain expertise in safe operation of specialist MRI equipment, demonstrate competency in diverse procedures and manage faults effectively.
* Act independently in the assessment of referrals for MRI examinations, taking full responsibility for justification according to department protocols.
* Work within NHSGGC health board policies to maintain a safe working environment and adhere to MRHA legislation, local rules and SOPs.
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and multidisciplinary team members, prioritising workload based on patient condition severity and management impact.
* Provide advice on radiographic issues, clinical suitability, MR safety and compatibility to radiology staff, referrers and ward staff.
* Adapt imaging techniques for patients with injuries or illnesses, using motivational and persuasive skills to achieve accurate positioning with minimal dose.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
* BSc or DCR in Radiography or equivalent.
* HCPC registration.
* Post‑graduate education or equivalent experience demonstrating specialist clinical skills for MRI.
* Short courses enhancing efficiency, such as venepuncture.
* Ongoing educational and personal development.
* Excellent communication skills and teamwork.
