 
        
        Overview
This role offers hybrid working, with the option to work from home subject to managerial approval or from one of our offices. The contract is permanent and full-time (37 hours per week).
Somerset Council is responsible for the management and maintenance of the County's Highway Bridge, Culvert and retaining wall stock, numbering over 2,500 structures. The stock includes a wide variety of asset types in form, construction, material, span and location, with many masonry arches, simply supported reinforced concrete slabs, retaining walls of different forms, large multi-span structures, and other bridge and watercourse structures located in rural and urban areas. The stock continues to grow through new highway schemes and developers' projects. We are working to improve the lives of people in Somerset, and you will play a key role in that effort.
Responsibilities
 * Undertaking inspections, investigations and surveys to bridges and structures, either as principal or in a supporting role.
 * Collating findings and preparing inspection reports in written or electronic formats.
 * Initiating and delivering minor routine bridge and structures maintenance schemes and, under supervision, initiating, developing and delivering elements of the selected bridge or structures maintenance and improvement projects.
 * Assisting with the coordination and supervision of new-build, maintenance, improvement and strengthening projects.
 * Supporting senior colleagues with the preparation of schedules, reports, calculations, costings, technical data, programmes of work, presentations and briefings for internal, stakeholder and public use relating to Somerset Council structures.
 * Acting as a point of contact for the public, interest groups and councils for individual structures projects and programmes.

 * The salary for the role is Grade 12, ranging from £28,598 - £32,061 per annum.
