South Tyneside Health Collaboration (STHC) is recruiting a proactive and highly organised Site Lead to oversee the day‑to‑day running of our Whitburn Surgery site. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a busy primary care environment and is committed to delivering excellent patient experience and safe, efficient services.
Main duties of the job
The Site Lead will ensure the practice operates smoothly on a daily basis, providing visible leadership to reception and administrative teams and supporting clinicians to deliver high‑quality care. You will manage operational processes, staffing, patient flow, and compliance, while working closely with the Strategic General Practice Lead, who focuses on long‑term planning, financial forecasting, and organisational development.
This is a hands‑on leadership role with responsibility for operational delivery, service continuity, and maintaining high standards across both sites.

STHC brings together general practices across South Tyneside to deliver services at scale. We directly manage two practices in Whitburn and Jarrow, with a combined list size of around 8,500 patients, and host a range of PCN‑based services and clinical roles.

Who We Are Looking For
You will have experience in general practice or healthcare operations, strong people‑management skills, and the confidence to lead busy frontline teams. You'll be organised, solutions‑focused, and committed to delivering excellent patient care.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and support reception and administrative teams.
* Oversee day‑to‑day operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality service delivery.
* Manage rotas, room allocation, and locum coordination.
* Handle first‑line patient complaints and monitor patient feedback.
* Oversee patient safety incident processes and support learning from events.
* Ensure compliance with CQC, infection control, and practice policies.
* Manage operational financial processes including claims, invoicing, and private fees.
* Provide operational data to support financial planning and decision‑making.
* Act as first point of contact for IT and system issues.
* Support workflow, administrative processes, and service improvements.
* Lead the Patient Participation Group and promote patient involvement.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
* A good standard of education, with an expectation of having both GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English.
* Leadership and/or management qualification.
Experience (Essential)
* Experience of managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience of working with the general public.
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
* Experience of performance management, including appraisal writing, staff development and disciplinary procedures.
* Experience of successfully developing and implementing projects.
* Understanding of Health and Safety requirements.
Desirable
* HR understanding and experience.
* Experience of health and safety requirements and needs within a small business.
* Experience of chairing meetings, producing agendas and minutes.
Knowledge and Skills (Essential)
* Excellent communication skills (written, oral and presenting).
* Proven leadership skills.
* Competent in the use of MS Office and Outlook.
