Job Summary

Join Us in Delivering Compassionate, High-Quality Care. Are you an experienced and dedicated General Practitioner seeking a meaningful role in urgent care? At Winchester Urgent Care Clinic, we are looking for a skilled GP to join our multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity to work independently in an Out of Hours setting while delivering expert face-to-face consultations and making a real difference in the lives of our patients. The Service operates.

Available Hours:

* Fri: 13:30 - 23:00
* Sat & Sun: 08:00 - 13:00 or 13:00 - 18:00

Main duties of the job

As a General Practitioner, You Will:

* Deliver the highest clinical standards to all patients accessing the service.
* Assess, investigate, diagnose, and treat patients with needs suitable for primary care.
* Identify and manage acute presentations, referring to the Emergency Department when appropriate.
* Provide emergency stabilisation for patients awaiting transfer.
* Support and advise colleagues within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
* Manage patient flow effectively, balancing clinical need with service capacity.

PHL (formerly known as Hampshire Doctors on Call) runs Integrated Urgent Care, which evolved from the former Out of Hours model, for localities in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The services we operate include call handling, telephone clinical assessment, out of hours home visiting services and some face-to-face Primary Care appointments services in Hampshire. In 2021 a newly formed Healthcare Division was created and incorporates PHL’s Urgent Care, Primary Care and Youla Care Concierge Services. The new division combines PHL's healthcare operations into one team and utilises internal and external resources efficiently to achieve our organisations vision: to be an innovative healthcare enabler, known for providing a range of high-quality care.

Job Description


Job responsibilities

As a General Practitioner at Winchester Urgent Care Clinic, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to our patients and working independently in an Out of Hours care setting. You’ll provide expert face-to-face consultations, ensuring safe, informed clinical decisions with compassion and respect.

Maintain the highest clinical standards for all patients accessing the service.

Elucidate the primary reason for the patients attendance at the Urgent Treatment Centre.

Assess, investigate, diagnose and treat patients presenting with clinical needs which can be met by primary care.

Refer to emergency department where appropriate.

Provide emergency care while waiting for emergency transfer of patient when appropriate.

Provide advice and support to colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team.

Manage the flow of patients by balancing the clinical need of the patient with the capacity of the provider to deliver the necessary response.

Essential experience (Person Specification)

* An experienced doctor with GP accreditation and a minimum of 3 years experience.
* Current registration with GMC and NHS performers list (with no conditions preventing working or restrictions on practice).
* Experience of working in primary care and urgent care environment.
* Record of on-going CPD and learning.
* Maintain continued education through attendance at courses and/or study days as necessary to ensure professional development requirements for on-going professional registration and licensing are met.
* Ensure that high clinical standards are maintained throughout the service.
* Participate in annual appraisal and complete an annual personal development plan.
* Comply with standard operational procedures and departmental and organisational policy.
* Undertake necessary mandatory training.
* MRCGP examination
* Sound knowledge of clinical governance
* Clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills written, verbal (particularly listening skills)
* Good organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload
* Good clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis and management of acute Primary care presentations
* Be able to clear an enhanced DBS check
* Must be authorised to work in the UK

Desirable

* Be willing to support professionals from other disciplines such as Emergency Care Practitioners, Advanced nurse practitioners and GP registrars. This may involve practitioners sitting in and seeing patients where appropriate.
* Strong ability to manage, prioritise, and organise workload effectively.
* Excellent at building relationships and communicating clearly.
* Skilled in using clinical IT systems efficiently, such as Adastra and Electronic Prescribing (EPS).
* Will understand the political agenda and drivers influencing primary care provision.
* Good leadership skills with the ability to influence and negotiate.
