As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring learning continues effectively in the absence of teaching staff. You will be delivering pre-prepared lessons across a broad range of subjects—including PE. A keen interest in sport or coaching experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
This role offers valuable classroom experience for anyone considering a future career in teaching. Previous Cover Supervisors have successfully used this opportunity as a stepping stone into teacher training.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and manage classes during teacher absences, ensuring students stay on task
Support students with work set by the teacher or head of department
Provide clear feedback to teachers on student behaviour, engagement, and progress
Maintain a calm and purposeful classroom environment
Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young people in accordance with school policies
We are looking for someone who:
Is motivated, reliable, and confident working with secondary school pupils
Has excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to supporting learning
Can adapt to teaching a range of subjects with enthusiasm and professionalism
Has an interest in education—especially beneficial for aspiring teachers or those with experience in coaching or youth work
