West Midlands Safari Park currently has a permanent vacancy available for an exciting role which combines Animal welfare and Animal Keeping on the Ungulates Section. This is an exciting opportunity, where we are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the ability and knowledge to maintain high standards of animal welfare for all species within the collection. The role will involve carrying out welfare audits to a set template identifying areas for improvement and reporting findings to the Senior Wildlife team and ensuring that legislation is adhered to. It will include educating our guests on animal welfare through the delivery of talks and presentations.

The role will also involve animal keeping skills with our extensive range of ungulate species managed in a drive-through system. The position involves husbandry tasks, such as feeding, cleaning, health monitoring and enclosure maintenance delivered to a high standard. The position involves work within the Asia and African Sections and all the species within. It includes monitoring of our guests in the drive through and delivering keeper talks.

The role requires someone who is confident, motivated and enthusiastic about animal welfare and with excellent communication skills. The successful applicant will require good knowledge of wildlife and have an animal-related qualification to BSc level or above. Previous experience in a similar role would be desirable but not essential if the right candidate has a positive can-do attitude. It is a physically demanding but very rewarding role.

Due to driving company vehicles, we are looking for applicants who have full, valid driver’s licenses. Weekend, bank holiday working and flexibility in working hours is essential to this role. Some evening work may be required during special events throughout the year

What we are

West Midlands Safari Park is an award-winning visitor attraction, located in Worcestershire in the heart of England. It is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and critically endangered species, with a four-mile safari drive-through, walk-through Discovery Trail, African Village and Lemur Woods, as well beautiful walking trails, allowing guests to experience up close encounters with hundreds of exotic animals. Guests can also choose from a wide range of catering and retail outlets, as well as enjoying a large amusement area with over 25 rides and attractions providing the ideal venue for family days out.

In 2021, the Park introduced Safari Lodges – luxury accommodation allowing guests to stay overnight for the first time. Guests can wake up to incredible sights of elephants, giraffe, rhino and red panda, or sleep just a ‘whisker’ away from lions, tigers and cheetahs.

In addition, the park is home to three incredible venues – Spring Grove House, Treetops Pavillion and Cellarz, which play host to weddings, corporate events and social celebrations.
