Overview

Are you passionate about playing a vital role in saving lives? If so, you may be a perfect fit for the Road Safety team in Gloucestershire County Council. As a Principal Road Safety Engineer, you will have the opportunity to shape and implement road safety projects and policies that can prevent injuries and save lives. This role leads a team tasked with reducing road traffic casualties in Gloucestershire, managing road safety schemes, analysing collision data, speed management, providing safety reviews of highway design proposals and undertaking Road Safety Audits. You will work to implement road safety strategies and meet casualty reduction targets, lead on a programme of Road Safety schemes including project management and commissioning, manage budgets and provide regular updates. You will supervise, mentor, advise and support team members, assisting the Road Safety Manager to ensure continued team development and strong team working. You will collaborate with other GCC teams and external partner organisations to deliver road safety solutions and work with local, regional and national interest groups to promote safe, healthy and sustainable travel for all road users. Note: Hybrid working arrangements are available for the majority of our roles, balancing service need and individual choice, with a mix of remote and office working.


Responsibilities

* Lead and develop a team focused on reducing road traffic casualties, including management of road safety schemes and programmes.
* Analyse collision data, manage speed management initiatives, provide safety reviews of highway design proposals, and undertake Road Safety Audits.
* Lead on road safety strategies to meet casualty reduction targets and ensure delivery of schemes through project management and commissioning.
* Manage budgets and provide regular updates on financial status.
* Supervise, mentor, advise and support team members; collaborate with the Road Safety Manager on team development and performance.
* Work with other GCC teams and external partner organisations to deliver road safety solutions.
* Engage with local, regional and national interest groups to promote safe, healthy and sustainable travel for all road users.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Knowledge and appreciation of the Safe System.
* Experience in managing colleagues and projects; experience in monitoring budgets and reporting status.
* Expert knowledge of road safety, highway design standards and guidance to provide safe solutions for all road users.
* Significant experience in collision data analysis and deriving solutions to road safety issues.
* Qualified in accordance with GG 119 and able to undertake Road Safety Audits.
* Excellent organisational skills; ability to prioritise workloads and maintain service levels; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Customer-focused mindset to build working relationships with stakeholders.
* Right to work for at least 6 months; the council is not able to offer sponsorship in this role. Right to work is not transferable from a sponsored role held with another employer.
