University Hospital Bristol and Weston (UHBW) are looking for Band 3 Senior Healthcare Support Workers (SHCSW) in a variety of Wards and Theatre opportunities.
You will be required to be fully flexible across all shift patterns, including weekdays, weekends, nights and bank holidays. 23hours per week is the minimum for a part-time role.
Previous hospital healthcare experience is essential.

The following note applies: this role does not currently meet the salary requirement for certificate of sponsorship. From 9 April 2025, the minimum salary required for a Skilled Worker visa became £25,000 per year. While this role may be offered at a higher point on the pay scale depending on relevant NHS experience, most new starters are appointed at the bottom of the band, which does not meet the new salary threshold.

Main duties of the job
Working as a Healthcare Support Worker on the adult inpatient wards and Theatres you will be involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients. You will be working alongside a registered Nurse to provide essential nursing care for adult patients. You will be helping your patients (both male and female) with daily living tasks, including washing and going to the toilet (hygiene & continence) or helping with their meals (nutrition).
Helping with mobility needs and providing pressure area care.
Providing patients and their families with emotional support.
Undertaking “one to one observation” for patients who present a high risk due to their clinical condition.
Helping to maintain a ward environment that is clean and safe, preventing infection and falls.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Working Hours: 37.5hrs per week (full time) or 24hrs per week (part time)
You will be working on an inpatient ward, and you will be required to work long shifts (12hours) which include days/nights, weekend and Bank Holidays.
This is physically demanding role and you will be on your feet for long periods.
This is an emotionally demanding role and requires you to adapt quickly to the constantly changing clinical demands on an acute inpatient ward.

Knowledge and Experience
* Be able to work as a member of a team
* Experience of time management and prioritising work

Qualifications and Training
* One of the following Level 3 (SCQF – 6): City and Guilds 3 NVQ 3 BTEC National Diploma Experience equivalent to the above qualifications
* Level 2 Functional skills in English and Math’s, or equivalent
* Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (that maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker) or equivalent experience
Skills and Abilities
* Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
* Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
* Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures
* Committed to providing high quality patient care
* Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard
* Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training within given time frames
* Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards/unit dependant on clinical need
* Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the healthcare setting
