Overview
Medical Secretary, Imaging Department. Hours: 37.5 per week. All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.
Responsibilities
* Provide an efficient and effective secretarial service to the Radiologists in the Imaging department.
* Work as part of a secretarial team and provide general administrative support to the department.
* Provide a high-quality support to the consultant radiologists, specialty doctors in radiology and advanced reporting practitioners to facilitate smooth running of imaging department.
* Undertake a full range of secretarial duties including typing reports and correspondence, dealing with telephone/e-mail enquiries, arranging appointments and supporting ongoing and new clinical imaging workloads.
* Gain understanding of national and local imaging standards and targets and be proactive in ensuring that imaging and the Trust can deliver a service that meets the standards and targets that have been set.
* Provide a considerate, patient-focused service in all dealings with patients and with staff around the hospital and throughout the whole healthcare system.
Requirements and expectations
* Excellent communication skills. Enjoy working as part of a team and ideally have experience of working with the public. A flexible approach to the needs of the department is essential.
* Adhere to the organisation’s standards of customer care. Welcome visitors and deal with clients in a confidential and sensitive manner, including face to face, via e-mail or over the phone; may require tact, persuasion and negotiation skills to exchange information relating to appointments/admissions.
* Receive enquiries courteously and efficiently, take messages and ensure they are passed on to the appropriate person. Communicate effectively with staff and clients within partner agency organisations in a confidential and sensitive manner (GPs, healthcare professionals, hospital departments and referral centres).
* Behave in accordance with the Trust's values of compassion, striving for excellence, respecting diversity, integrity; listen and support others.
* Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with local and Trust policies; familiarity with Data Protection Act and related policies.
* DBS check may be required for new employees. The post is subject to an initial probationary period of six months, extendable up to 12 months.
