Job purpose
As Deputy Residential Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the
Registered Manager to deliver a safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed home for young women (13–17 years) who have experienced significant adversity.
You will lead and inspire a team of Practitioners, ensuring high-quality care that is
unconditional, kind, compassionate, and meets and exceeds the Children’s Homes
Regulations and Ofsted Quality Standards.
You will combine strong leadership, professional curiosity, and emotional resilience
with the ability to hold staff accountable for safe practice, professional boundaries, and consistent implementation of care plans.
You will role-model trauma-informed approaches, reflective decision-making, and a
commitment to young people’s rights, voice, and aspirations.
To support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management and development of the children’s home, ensuring high-quality, child-centred care and compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards. The Deputy Manager plays a key leadership role, promoting safeguarding, positive outcomes for children and young people, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Duties & Responsibilities
* To manage and supervise a team of support workers / senior support workers.
* In all aspects of the day to day management of the house and its programmes and activities, ensuring that it operates in a smooth, effective and efficient manner.
* Setting an example to all other staff in high standards of dress code, professional courtesy and manners, communication, report writing, dealing with issues and conflict resolution.
* Preparing the agenda for meetings and for chairing and taking minutes.
* Training new staff in care staff procedures and routines.
* Identifying and assessing each young person’s problems and needs.
* Oversight of the writing the young person’s Placement Plan.
* Attending internal and external review meetings, when required, as his/her representative.
* Developing and maintaining positive relationships with each young person to ensure that his/her needs are met.
* Ensuring that social and recreational activities for each young person are assessed for risk and are well planned, organised and adequately supervised. Ensuring that staff are involved in the activities.
* Maintain and sustain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness within the house. This includes the exterior of the home.
* Assist with budget management and resource allocation.
* Ensure incidents, complaints, and notifications are managed in line with regulations.
* Ensure all children’s records and documents are accurate, up to date, and reflective of current needs and risks.
* Oversee the regular review and updating of care plans, placement plans, risk assessments, behaviour support plans, and health care plans.
* Ensure daily records, incident reports, safeguarding logs, and medication records are completed to a high standard and within required timescales.
* Ensure statutory notifications, reports, and internal monitoring documents are completed and submitted correctly.
* Oversee care planning processes, ensuring plans are current and reflective of children’s needs.
* Contribute to placement planning, reviews, and professional meetings.
* Developing staff includes an agency, bank and new starters.
* Follow and complete the deputy manager's monthly check list. This will be given to
you-on-your initial probation meeting.
* Adapt your working hours to support your registered manager in their absence and support the business needs.
* Willingness to partake in events such as training, workshops, development days and team building exercise.
* Attend training, supervision, and team meetings.
* Work in line with the home’s policies, Children’s Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards
Person Specification
Qualifications
· NVQ Level 4 in caring for Children & Young People completed or enrolled.
Experience
· Minimum of two years’ experience working in a Children’s Residential Home
· Minimum six months supervisory experience
