Speech and Language Therapist (Maternity Cover) Phase 1 or 2
Who Are We?
The Percy Hedley Foundation is one of the largest regional charities supporting people with a range of learning and physical needs. We take a person‑centred, flexible approach to the care and support we provide. We have five sites providing specialist education, adult day services, residential care and independent supported living to our service users. Our sites are based in Forest Hall, Killingworth, Jesmond, Newcastle City Centre and North Shields.
We work towards excellence every day and our team members are committed to delivering the very best outcomes for the people we support. Our dynamic and flexible service is tailored to the specific needs of the individual, making it easier to live, learn and be part of a world adapting to change.
Hedley’s College is a high‑quality specialist further education and training provider. We provide education and training for young people aged 16‑25 with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities who require specialist individual programmes to develop their communication, independence and employability skills. We help our learners make successful transitions into adulthood within the Northeast region.
We offer a busy, vibrant and varied environment that supports disabled young adults with cerebral palsy, communication and sensory impairments and complex learning needs including those with autism. We offer a choice of activities that meet peoples aspirations, needs and preferences, thus offering an individualised programme with support from a highly skilled and dedicated staff.
The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 5 or Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist within our multi‑disciplinary Therapy team. Speech and Language Therapists at Hedley’s College play a vital role in supporting students and their families with specialist interventions such as both high‑tech and low‑tech AAC, signing systems and other expressive and receptive communication methods. The successful candidate would provide input to a caseload of students with complex speech, language and communication needs as well as possible dysphagia needs. You would become part of an existing, dedicated team of therapists who strive to deliver best practice at all times, and there are opportunities to shape a service to meet the ever‑changing needs of those we support. This is temporary, term‑time only post covering maternity leave.
