Department and Role Overview
The Digital Services Directorate supports the university’s academic, administrative, and research activities through technology, data, and digital services. As part of the Infrastructure and Operations Team, this role focuses on supporting and developing the university’s network infrastructure, services, and security.
Key Responsibilities
Security Operations Support
* Act as a reference point for network security, advising IT teams on best practices.
* Perform vulnerability assessments, audits, and monitor network traffic for anomalies.
* Collaborate on integrating security into network architecture and applications.
* Investigate security incidents, implement remediation, and report on findings.
* Contribute to incident response and liaise with external security teams as needed.
* Deliver staff training to embed security awareness across the university.
Operational Support
* Assist in designing and managing Network Services aligned with university standards.
* Develop and monitor service levels, addressing service issues proactively.
* Act as the Tools SME for monitoring, alerting, and reporting functions.
* Assist with onboarding network & server environments from development into production.
Development Support
* Align security protocols with the university’s IT strategy.
* Configure network services to meet evolving needs.
* Support monitoring and reporting tools, supporting wider infrastructure capabilities.
* Promote skill development in infrastructure, security, and service enhancements.
Project and Change Management
* Support planning and enhancement of network services and technologies.
* Contribute to IT project groups, offering expertise in network security.
* Prepare and document change requests, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities.
Qualifications and Skills
Educated to degree level in a technical subject or with equivalent qualifications and experience. Experience working in a technical computing environment, with strong writing, presentation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
