About the Job

Contract type: Permanent

Hours per week: 37

Salary: £27,254– £29,540 per year

Please note: This role includes working up to at least midnight. Only applicants who can meet this criterion should apply.

As a Civil Enforcement Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient use of parking across the borough.

You will undertake regular patrols and inspections to enforce both on‑street and off‑street parking regulations, issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) in line with established standards, and gather accurate evidence to support adjudication where required. You will maintain clear and accurate records of your activities, complete reports, and respond appropriately to service communications.

The role also involves identifying and reporting defects in road markings, signage, and other street infrastructure, placing and retrieving “No Waiting” cones, and keeping detailed records of these activities.

Providing a visible and approachable presence in the community, you will offer advice and assistance to members of the public on parking matters, handling enquiries professionally and in line with customer care standards.

You may also support local authority surveys and data collection exercises to inform service improvements. You will use a range of equipment and systems, ensuring they function correctly, reporting faults, and managing secure handling of information.

In addition, you will conduct inspections of pay and display machines, ensuring operational and financial compliance, and undertake minor repairs where appropriate. You may contribute to the training and development of new Civil Enforcement Officers, helping maintain high standards.

This is a varied, outdoor role that requires attention to detail, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering a fair and effective enforcement service.

Please note: This role does not attract sponsorship.

About You

We are looking for someone with experience of working with the general public and a strong commitment to delivering a professional and fair service. You will be confident in engaging with a wide range of people, including challenging or confrontational situations, and will always respond calmly, politely and tactfully.

You will be able to accurately record and reproduce information, both in written reports and through handheld or other mobile IT equipment.

You are able to read, understand and follow procedures and guidance, using judgement to establish facts and take appropriate action within defined processes.

You can organise your own workload effectively, working independently while ensuring duties are completed efficiently and to required standards.

A strong understanding of customer care principles is essential, along with an awareness of equality, diversity and how discrimination can impact service delivery.

You will have a basic understanding of parking legislation and a willingness to apply this knowledge consistently.

The role requires flexibility, including the ability to work unsociable hours, particularly at weekends. You must also be physically able to walk and stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day) and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
