Job Summary
Irlam Associates are delighted to be working with a great client of ours who are seeking a skilled and experienced Workshop Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our VMU Workshop. The remit will be to ensure all LGV vehicles/trailers are properly maintained/serviced and repaired in line with VOSA and manufacturers requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge and be adept at assembling, maintaining, and repairing equipment.
This role requires excellent customer service skills, as you will be interacting with clients to ensure their needs are met. The Workshop Supervisor will also be responsible for supervising staff, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and maintaining a well-organised workshop environment. Notably full compliance with all relevant legislation (Health & Safety & Fire regulations)
Responsibilities:
Manage the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring efficiency and productivity within a continual safe environment.
Regular contact with suppliers, managers, colleagues and drivers
To supervise Workshop Operatives and allocate new job work cards accordingly
Checking all vehicle inspection sheets and counter sign them.
Ensure all defects on vehicles are repaired and cleared off the system in a timely manner to manufacturing standard.
Ensure inspection schedules are updated in a timely manner.
To ensure minimum disruption to fleet
Be fully aware of the tractors and trailers under your remit, including their service, MOT and inspection schedules and requirements
Oversee staff performance, providing guidance and training as necessary and ensure relevant upskill training (internal/external) is carried out / recorded
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the workshop.
To ensure completion of all repairs to the manufacturer standard, including third party vehicles
Manage the workshop mechanics/technicians and supporting staff, including holidays, sickness, and hours of work in line with WTR. Particularly ensuring no one works over 60 hours per week
Take special attention to your working environment when welding and working at height that you comply with Safe Working Practices Requirements:
Proven mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in assembly and maintenance.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients
Familiarity with reading schematics for equipment assembly and troubleshooting.
Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform physical tasks throughout the day.
Strong organisational skills to maintain a clean and efficient workshop environment. Skills/Knowledge:

NVQ Level 3 or BTEC Qualification
