Internal Communications Manager (The Lancet Group) –12 Month fixed term contract

The role is a one-year maternity cover role, based out of our offices in London Wall (UK). Elsevier supports flexible working – you will be expected to work from the office at least one day a week.
About the role
We are seeking an Internal Communications Manager to help shape and deliver our strategic internal communications programme across The Lancet Group – a world-leading family of medical journals, with over 250 colleagues in 20 global locations. You will help foster and reinforce understanding of our strategy, celebrate our mission and people, and sustain trust in leadership. You will translate complex strategy into clear, engaging storytelling, support change initiatives, and ensure consistent, high-quality communications across multiple channels, including our intranet, email and town halls. In the role, you will work closely with members of the Lancet Group's Leadership Team, Senior Leadership Group, HR, and Internal Comms and Learning and Development colleagues across Elsevier. As chair of our employee resource group, you will play an important role in ensuring a strong employee feedback loop. You will partner directly with senior managers on the development and execution of internal comms plans supporting business critical initiatives – including those relating to the Lancet Group's operating model. You will also be expected to lead cross-functional projects, working with colleagues in other teams. The role sits within the Lancet's Communications team, reporting to the Head of Media & Communications, and working closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications.
Responsibilities
* Develop and execute an internal communications strategy aligned with business priorities.
* Partner with the Leadership Team to translate strategy into concise, credible, and compelling messages that build trust, and understanding.
* Work with colleagues on communications that support learning and development initiatives, onboarding, and professional growth.
* Identify and deliver activities that celebrate our mission, people, and achievements; coordinate events such as town halls, and milestone recognition activities.
* Manage and optimise internal channels including our intranet (SharePoint), weekly newsletter, and town halls to maximise reach, relevance, and engagement.
* Support change communications for complex, cross-departmental initiatives, including communications around operational efficiencies, ensuring consistent, transparent, and timely updates.
* Foster and reinforce a strong, constructive feedback loop between colleagues and the leadership teams.
* Measure impact through engagement metrics and qualitative insights; adapt strategies accordingly.
* Work closely with internal comms colleagues across our wider business unit (Science, Technology and Medical Journals, STMJ) and Elsevier to align on internal comms priorities, identifying opportunities to highlight and raise internal awareness of key Lancet Group initiatives, programs, published content, and campaigns.
Requirements
* 4+ years' experience in internal communications in a medium-large sized organisation - interest in science, health or publishing is a plus.
* Proven ability to partner with senior leaders to craft and deliver strategic messaging.
* Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to influence.
* Excellent writing, editing and presentations skills.
* Strong understanding of people and their needs.
* Proficiency with internal communications channels and tools.
* Data-driven with experience measuring engagement, interpreting feedback, and turning insights into action.
* Experience supporting learning and development communications, onboarding, and leadership initiatives.
