Overview

Interviews will be based at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The role of the Voluntary Services Department is to provide volunteering opportunities for people in our local communities, which enhances the experience of patients and visitors to our hospital and community sites, as well as supporting our staff. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that makes a real difference every day. Your role will be crucial in supporting the recruitment and on-boarding of volunteer applicants, with a key focus on their placement and maintaining strong relationships with volunteers, to ensure they feel engaged, valued and empowered.

You will assist in the delivery of patient experience initiatives by offering volunteer roles to departments/wards that enhance patient care, already being provided by our paid staff. We are looking for someone who is passionate about volunteering and can engage and support volunteers, with varying skills and abilities, before, during and after their volunteering placements, ensuring that their experience is positive and beneficial to patients, the organisation and themselves.


Responsibilities

* Support the on-boarding and coordination of our team of volunteers who give an outstanding contribution of time to enhance our patients and staff experiences.
* Support informal interviews to assess suitability of volunteers for specific roles.
* Liaise with area or department staff to promote and engage volunteers effectively.
* Have the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters in a professional manner and in line with the department and the Trust’s data protection and confidentiality guidelines and policies.
* Ensure robust recruitment checks have been collated.
* Provide effective coordination for volunteers, identifying volunteering opportunities.
* Support the introduction of new volunteers into clinical areas, completing local inductions and promoting positive working relationships with all staff in departments/wards.
* Engage with volunteers to provide pro-active communications through planned support.
* Have an ability to engage with a diverse team of volunteers.
* Encourage and support volunteers development.
* Ensure that our volunteer roles have the desired impact.
* Be able to liaise with staff at all levels, both clinical and non-clinical.

Person Specification / Qualifications

* Ability to support and advise volunteers in relation to mandatory training and identify any additional training to ensure volunteer needs are met.
* Skilled in adapting communication methods to the situation.
* An excellent communicator, showing empathy and understanding where needed.
* Ability to plan, organise and monitor volunteer activity, maintaining accurate records and monitoring the impact of volunteer involvement in service delivery.
* Competent in the audit and evaluation to evidence volunteer activity.
* Experience in placing and supervising volunteers.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms, Outlook, Teams).
* Able to bring experience from the voluntary or charity sector.
* Confident and able to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
* Capable of ensuring all volunteering data is managed, stored and organised in line with Trust information governance standards, GDPR and Data Protection Laws.
* Capable of travelling independently across our hospital sites, on the South Bank and North Bank on occasions.
