About the Role

As Deputy Headteacher (Quality of Education), you will provide both strategic and operational leadership, with a primary focus on curriculum excellence, teaching and learning, and positive behaviour support. You will play a central role in driving high standards across the school, ensuring that every pupil receives a high‑quality, cohesive and ambitious educational experience.

Working as a key member of the senior and multi‑disciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with education, care and clinical colleagues to deliver an integrated approach that supports strong outcomes for all pupils. You will model outstanding practice, inspire teams and foster positive relationships with families, professionals and regulatory partners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Work with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to uphold high standards across all areas of school life.
2. Lead on curriculum design and development, ensuring coherence, progression and quality throughout the school.
3. Oversee positive behaviour support, including Behaviour Support Plans, in partnership with clinical colleagues.
4. Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, ensuring individual outcomes are met.
5. Contribute to referral assessments and placement decision-making.
6. Act as a core member of the multi‑disciplinary team, ensuring effective links between education, care and clinical provision.
7. Ensure full compliance with safeguarding procedures, the SEND Code of Practice and all relevant legislation.
8. Build and maintain strong relationships with families, carers, external professionals and partner agencies.
9. Model high‑quality teaching, assessment and behaviour practice.
10. Undertake teaching responsibilities as agreed.

Staff Leadership and Management

11. Support the recruitment, induction, training and ongoing professional development of staff.
12. Provide effective line management through supervision, appraisal, probation and wellbeing processes.
13. Delegate responsibilities appropriately and ensure staff are supported to meet expectations.
14. Promote and embed organisational values, policies and regulatory standards throughout the school.
15. Deputise for the Headteacher and represent the school when required.

About You

You will have:

16. Experience teaching children and young people with autism, complex needs and/or challenging behaviour
17. Experience leading on the quality of education
18. Strong understanding of Ofsted frameworks and inspection processes
19. Proven ability to manage, support and develop staff
20. Experience managing budgets and resources
21. Confident leadership, communication and people‑management skills
22. Strong organisation, IT skills and time‑management
23. Good knowledge of safeguarding and regulatory requirements
24. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
25. Degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
26. Relevant sector qualifications and willingness to undertake further training
27. Full UK Driving Licence
