Job overview

We are seeking motivated Emergency Care Assistant's to join our Acute Medical Services team, supporting the delivery of exceptional care across the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), and the Short Stay Unit (SSU).

This position offers a structured training programme designed to equip you with essential clinical competencies, including baseline observations, ECG recording, cardiac monitoring, venepuncture, cannulation, and basic life support. You will also gain experience in wound care and closure techniques, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, and assisting patients with mobility, nutrition, hygiene, and comfort.

Working alongside the nursing team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, supportive, and high-quality care environment. You’ll also become familiar with the layout and operation of medical equipment and uphold best practices in health and safety at all times.

Main duties of the job

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a virtual information and guidance session on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, at 12:00 p.m.

We look forward to engaging with as many candidates as possible during this session. It will provide detailed information about the role, interview preparation tips, an overview of the assessment day, and a clear explanation of the overall recruitment process.

Following this, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a Math's and English assessment on Monday, 17th November 2025.

Candidates who successfully pass the assessment will be invited to attend an interview on Tuesday, 25th November 2025 (please note that this date may be subject to change depending on clinical availability).

Qualifications/Training


Essential criteria

* Care Certificate
* GCSEs (or equivalent qualification or standard) in English and Math


Previous Experience

* Experience of working with the general public or a range of different people

* Experience of healthcare or care work

Essential criteria

* Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings with patients, relatives, carers and other members of staff of varying levels of understanding
* Evidence of being self-motivated
* Evidence of working effectively as part of a team
* Basic IT skills – ability to use keyboard or willingness to develop
* Excellent time management and organisational skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to use them to communicate effectively with patients within a multi-disciplinary team
* Ability to work in a busy, sometimes pressurised environment
* Ability to work to deadlines ability to use judgement on when to escalate issues and problems


Desirable criteria

* Venepuncture and cannulation skills
* Wound care
* Immobilisation and casting skills
