Overview

Nursery SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator)

Candidate must hold Level 3 within Early Years and a Level 3 SENDCO qualification is preferable. Monday - Friday 8am-4pm (Term Time Only).

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm (Term-time only).


About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nursery SENDCO to join our caring team. You will play a vital role in ensuring children with special educational needs receive the tailored support they need to thrive. This position requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and a genuine passion for early childhood education. Working closely with staff, families, and external professionals, you will help create an inclusive atmosphere where every child can reach their full potential. A minimum Level 3 childcare qualification is required.


Responsibilities

1. Identifying and Supporting SEND
o Lead early identification processes through observation and family engagement.
o Oversee the Graduated Approach: Assess – Plan – Do – Review.
o Ensure high-quality, individualised support for children with additional needs.
2. Paperwork & Administration
o Maintain accurate SEND documentation, including Support Plans, review records, and EHCP requests.
o Submit paperwork to the Local Authority within statutory deadlines.
3. Multi-Agency Liaison
o Act as the lead contact for external agencies (e.g., Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists).
o Attend professional meetings and contribute to coordinated care plans.
4. Funding & Resources
o Apply for SEND Inclusion Fund (SENDIF) and additional support funding.
o Ensure funding is allocated to meet children’s individual needs.
5. Care Delivery
o Provide reduced-ratio care and direct support for children with complex SEND.
o Model inclusive practice and targeted interventions.
6. Planning & Curriculum
o Ensure inclusive planning in line with the EYFS framework.
o Support differentiation and targeted next steps for progress.
7. Staff Training & Support
o Offer guidance to colleagues on SEND strategies and inclusive practice.
o Help deliver in-house training and CPD opportunities.
8. Policy & Compliance
o Ensure the nursery’s SEND policy reflects current legislation.
o Keep up to date with national/local SEND developments.
o Maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding policies.


Experience & Skills

* Background in early childhood education or childcare.
* Experience supporting children with SEND (highly desirable).
* Strong leadership and motivational skills.
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
* Proactive, solutions-focused approach.
