We are currently seeking a professional Lead Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Biased, based at the Women & Childrens Hospital in Hull.

The Lead Engineer ( Mechanical Bias ) will be responsible for the effective delivery of mechanical engineering services within a hospital environment. This includes leadership of engineering activities, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, and maintaining critical systems to support patient care.
As a qualified Mechanical Lead Engineer, you willliaise with the Account Manager to monitor the progress of all PPM and Reactive works to ensure that all jobs are being completed correctly and within the set times and achieve the most efficient and effective running of the buildings. As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will manage all breakdowns, reactive and PPM works as required using your skills in supporting the team in resolving problems. You will also be fully conversant with the permit to work duties and to assist in the operation of the system.

The Lead Maintenance Engineer will work within a team and contribute at both an individual and team level to provide exceptional services and levels of compliance to our client and customers by leading a team of engineers. The ability to develop good working relationships with our client, customers, sub-contractors and colleagues with interaction on a professional level being a key requirement for this position.

The role involves working across multiple hospital sites, responding to emergencies, and participating in the on-call rota to ensure 24/7 operational resilience.

Some of the Operational Duties include:

Lead and oversee all mechanical engineering activities on-site, ensuring systems operate efficiently and safely.
Maintain, service, and repair mechanical systems including:
HVAC systems
Heating and hot water systems
Steam and pressure systems (where applicable)
Medical gas pipeline systems (desirable)
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, HTM (Health Technical Memoranda), and hospital-specific standards.
Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks.
Diagnose faults and implement effective solutions to minimise downtime.
Support lifecycle planning and asset management activities

Skills & Experience:

Strong mechanical engineering background within building services.
Experience in a healthcare or critical environment.
Experience with PPM systems and reactive maintenance.
Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
Ability to fault-find and problem solve under pressure.
Full UK driving licence

Desirable

Knowledge of HTM guidelines and statutory compliance.
Experience with medical gas systems.
Knowledge of BMS (Building Management Systems).
Experience working across multiple sites.
Previous experience in a Lead Engineer role.

Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Recognised apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification (desirable).
AP/CP status (preferred but not essential).

Additional Requirements

Willingness to travel between hospital sites.
Participation in an on-call rota.
Flexibility to work outside normal hours when required.
DBS check may be required due to working in a healthcare environment. ?

Well provide you with full training once you start and make sure that you have everything you need to do a great job. You will already have experience of working in a similar environment.

You will work 37.5 hours per week and you will have access to employee benefits that will be available to you as soon as you start. You will also be required to be on an on call rota and ideally needs to live within a 30 minute radius of the hospital.
