About the School

Our inclusive primary school in Watford is seeking a passionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to support children in EYFS, SEN, and ARP classrooms. We cater to children aged 3–11 years, including pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social-emotional challenges.

The school is committed to nurturing every child’s potential, providing a safe and stimulating environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our ARP (Additional Resource Provision) classrooms are specially designed to provide targeted support for children with complex needs, with small class sizes and dedicated staff teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for an empathetic and proactive Teaching Assistant to work closely with teachers, SENCo, therapists, and parents to ensure every child can access a high-quality and tailored education.

Role Overview

The school is looking for a dynamic, patient, and adaptable Teaching Assistant to provide high-quality support across EYFS and SEN/ARP settings. Your main responsibilities will include:

* Supporting children individually and in small groups, helping them engage fully in lessons

* Assisting teachers with lesson planning, classroom management, and resource preparation

* Implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans

* Supporting transitions between mainstream classes and ARP provision

* Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social skills among pupils

* Maintaining detailed observations and records of pupil progress for assessment and planning purposes

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about inclusive education, enjoys hands-on classroom support, and is committed to helping children with additional needs achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions tailored to children’s learning needs

* Assist in the planning and delivery of lessons, ensuring children with SEND are fully included

* Supervise pupils during playtime, lunchtime, and classroom transitions, maintaining safety and engagement

* Collaborate with the SENCo, therapists, and teachers to implement specialist strategies for children with autism, ADHD, or other additional needs

* Support children in developing independence, confidence, and self-regulation skills

* Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, behaviour, and achievements

* Prepare and organise classroom resources, visual aids, and learning materials

* Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities

* Support exam and assessment procedures where required, ensuring a fair and supportive environment

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

* Have previous experience working in EYFS, primary school, or SEN/ARP settings

* Hold a relevant qualification such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, NCFE Support Work in Schools, CACHE, or equivalent

* Be confident, patient, and empathetic in dealing with children with complex learning needs

* Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with children, staff, and families

* Be familiar with safeguarding policies and child protection procedures

* Demonstrate creativity and initiative in supporting learning activities and behaviour management

* Be flexible and adaptable, able to respond positively to the changing needs of children and classrooms
