difficulties
. This role is both rewarding and dynamic, offering the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives while working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
Glossa Speech Therapy has been established since 2008 and has a reputation for providing person centred therapy that focuses on improving the lives of their clients and empowering them to work towards their communication and swallowing goals.
We work with individuals, Case Managers and Charities providing therapy across the lifespan from teenagers to adults with a variety of neurological difficulties.
Job Summary
The Speech & Language Therapy Assistant will work under the supervision of qualified Speech and Language Therapists to help deliver therapy programmes, prepare resources and support with clinical administration duties. The assistant will contribute to the efficient running of the speech therapy practice by ensuring that Therapists have all that they require to fulfil their roles and to provide valuable administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the service, for example setting up new patient files, organising discharges and collating outcome measure data.
Key Responsibilities
· Resource Preparation: Create and adapt therapy materials, visual aids, and communication tools to meet the individual needs of clients.
· Client Support and Empowerment: Provide encouragement, reassurance, and practical support to clients and their families as directed by the SLTs. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that empowers individuals to participate fully in their therapy.
· Administrative Duties: Provide clerical support, such as scheduling appointments, maintaining client databases, managing files, and supporting the organisation of therapy sessions and meetings.
· Group and Events assistance: support with the running and setting up of our successful Communication Cafes and therapy groups.
· Continuing Professional Development: Participate in training, reflective practice, and supervision sessions to keep skills and knowledge up-to-date.
Person Specification
Essential Skills and Qualities
· Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to adapt communication style to suit a range of clients, including children and adults with complex needs.
· Empathy and Patience: A compassionate and patient approach, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
· Organisation: Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple tasks, prioritise workload, and maintain accurate records.
· Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, sharing ideas and supporting colleagues.
· Initiative: Proactive and able to work independently within agreed guidelines.
· Confidentiality: Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
Desirable Skills and Experience
· Previous experience working with children or adults with communication difficulties.
· An understanding of the role of speech and language therapy.
· Basic knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
· Experience in preparing or delivering therapy resources and activities.
· Familiarity with safeguarding procedures and best practices.
Qualifications
· Minimum GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics are required.
· A relevant qualification or experience in health, education, childcare, or social care is highly desirable.
· Willingness to undertake further training and development as required by the role.
· Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or equivalent background screening.

Salary and Contractual Leave Requirements
· The hours of work for this role are flexible but will be a minimum of 10 hours per week based in the clinic in York.
· The rate of pay is £15.00 per hour.
· Holiday entitlement is statutory and will be calculated as per government guidelines Holiday entitlement: Entitlement - GOV.UK
