We have increased budget pressures and the ongoing need to deliver services in line with our statutory obligations and other legislation, which you will manage and deliver against.
We place high importance on strategic leadership and management and leadership skills. The Principal Occupational Therapist will make a key contribution to the leadership and direction of Adult Social Care and the council as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and the directorate’s management team.
We are looking for someone who has achieved significant success and can apply fresh thinking and new ideas to Islington, challenging the status quo and driving forward innovation and service excellence across ASC. Putting Occupational Therapy at the heart of our strengths-based practice model and ensuring feedback from the Occupational Therapy frontline is heard by managers and partners at all levels, you will identify and lead improvements to occupational therapy practice and expertise across the department.

We are looking for someone who can achieve this balance as well as create a positive, development culture for staff that supports and encourages a representative and diverse workforce.

Providing skilled and experienced leadership and practice knowledge to Occupational Therapists and wider practitioners within the organisation and its partners, you will lead the profession, and champion high quality Occupational Therapy across the Integrated Care System. You need to be a strong collaborator with experience of working with colleagues and partners to make a strategic contribution. You should be able to evidence your ability to gain the trust and support of key stakeholders, including Councillors, senior managers and partners.
You will drive wider quality assurance and best practice initiatives across internal and external provision, ensuring a strengths-based approach permeates decision making at all levels and that a culture of reflective learning and improvement is developed and embedded.
You will uphold and develop practice in the organisation in accordance with the four pillars of practice outlined in the RCOT Career development framework and Principal Occupational Therapists in Adult Social Care Roles and Responsibilities Guidance 2021.
To be the lead professional within the senior management team ensuring feedback from the Occupational Therapy frontline is heard by managers and partners at all levels.
The aim of the role is to ensure that there is professional practice oversight in place to lead, oversee, support and develop excellent occupational therapy practice and lead the development of excellent occupational therapists and social care practitioners. The POT will lead on quality assuring occupational therapy practice and work with the Principal Social Worker to provide challenge and support to colleagues.
You will be working as a key part of the Assurance, Strategy and Improvement team, working with the Principal Social Worker, senior leadership team and operational managers and reporting to the Assistant Director for Quality,Safeguardingand Workforce.
