INTERNAL VACANCY
Do you want to play a key part in delivering one of the UK's most ambitious council‑led housing programmes in a generation? Are you interested in sustainable development and place making?
The City of York Council's housing delivery programme continues to receive national attention for its commitment to creating great new places to live that are inclusive, support healthy lifestyles and wellbeing, and strengthen Yorks neighbourhoods.
Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Housing Development Officer to join our team on a permanent contract to help deliver our projects.
You will work with professional and design teams, including some of the country's best architects, to bring forward new neighbourhoods delivered through our strategic development partnership, ensuring they meet the needs of current and future generations. Our projects provide high‑quality, sustainable homes for first‑time buyers, growing families and people in later life.
Responsibilities
You will project‑manage small to medium‑sized housing schemes and support all stages of our larger projects, from inception and feasibility through to public engagement, design development, planning, procurement, construction and handover.
We do not expect you to be an expert in every aspect of development or project management. What matters most is strong communication, good organisation, and the motivation to learn and contribute. Training and support will be provided.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills and good organisational abilities are essential.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate, at interview, that they can converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public in spoken English at CEFR level C2 – i.e. they can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
Benefits
The Council offers a generous annual leave allowance; access to the Local Government Pension Scheme; comprehensive health and wellbeing initiatives; a reward package that recognises your contribution; flexible working practices; community engagement and volunteer activities; and a commitment to continuous learning and development. We also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role, with your contractual location at the designated council office for your team. The role is also suitable as a job share opportunity.
Employment Details
We do not have a sponsorship licence to sponsor individuals for visas to work in the UK, therefore we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.
