Our client, a prominent organisation within the Defence and Security sector, is seeking a highly skilled IAC - Orchestration Software Engineer with SC clearance to join their team on a contract basis. This role involves supporting the design, development, and validation of infrastructure automation components that underpin complex military and security systems. You will work at the forefront of automation technology, creating solutions that integrate hardware features and external APIs, ensuring reliable, repeatable deployments within critical environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop automation modules using Python3, Ansible, Jenkins, Bash, and PowerShell, focusing on hardware components and external services.
Reverse engineer legacy applications and manual build instructions to craft dynamic, zero-touch automation packages.
Create high-quality, production-ready code aligned with industry standards and internal policies.
Utilise version control tools such as GIT and BitBucket for code management and peer reviews.
Produce detailed design artefacts and support testing activities across the system environment.
Coordinate with service management to resolve technical issues efficiently.
Maintain documentation within Atlassian tools like JIRA and Confluence to ensure seamless tracking of tasks and knowledge sharing.
Collaborate within an agile team environment to deliver reliable infrastructure automation solutions.
Job Requirements:
Significant experience in developing complex Python3 automation classes for production systems.
Hands-on experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash and PowerShell for OS automation.
Experience deploying server, network, and storage technologies across multiple vendors.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware or software component failures effectively.
Knowledge of building or supporting large infrastructure environments.
Demonstrable experience with advanced Python3 coding features including workflows and desired state configuration.
At least one relevant professional certification within the last five years, such as CCNP, VMware VCP, RHCE, or OCA.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
Experience working within the Defence or wider public sector, especially with Defence Digital or delivering secure accredited solutions.
Knowledge of the Atlassian suite-JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo-for task management and documentation.
Relevant university-level education in Computer Science or a related field.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and an analytical mindset to solve complex technical problems.
Holds a valid Security Clearance (SC).
