Job summary
This post would be particularly beneficial for those doctors wishing to gain additional senior registrar experience in obstetrics and gynaecology following CCT/CESR, in a supportive environment. This post provides an opportunity to complete the RCOG SIPM in Leadership and Management, with encouragement to complete QI projects, attend relevant meetings (eg. Governance, PMRT, Gynae / Obs directorate meetings) and gain experience alongside the Clinical Directors and Directorate team in line with the SIPM curriculum. In addition, the Trust has a leadership programme with relevant courses. This post will provide the opportunity for the post holder to participate in clinical work at ST6-7. Please see RCOG Training matrix to review expected competencies as we would expect the post holder to be competent at skills ST1-5. The post holders will be required to contribute to a max 48-hour EWTD full shift rota. The remainder of the job plan each week will consist of general middle grade duties, allowing the successful candidates to maintain their skills in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Main duties of the job
1) To support the inpatient service in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at New Cross Hospital.
2) Outpatient workload: duties involve antenatal/gynaecology clinics and elective operating theatre lists.
3) Research, education, audit and continuing professional development
4) In conjunction with colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
5) Duties will involve labour ward and emergency gynaecology cover, antenatal/gynaecology clinics and elective operating theatre lists. The post holder will be responsible for the clinical care of Obstetric and Gynaecological patients under supervision as necessary.
6) The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of proper case records and investigations on patients, and correspondence with General Practitioners and others as required.

Gynaecologic surgery, including Minimal Access SurgeryThere are excellent opportunities for this area of practice. This department is well known in the region for providing training in general gynaecological surgery. There is opportunity forsenior trainees to have indirectly supervised lists.
Ambulatory GynaecologyThe Directorate delivers ambulatory gynaecology services from both New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital. These include diagnostic and therapeutic Colposcopy, diagnostic hysteroscopy, outpatient endometrial resection and endometrial ablation
UrogynaecologyWe offer advanced urogynaecology and advanced urodynamic investigations including video urodynamics. Regular MDT meetings are held with the colorectal and urology teams. The department undertakes long term data collection and is a recruitment centre for randomisedcontrolled trials
Robotic surgeryThis is actively used by gynaecological surgeons for gynae-oncology procedures.

Clinical audit/departmental teaching
The Trust has a supportive environment and is still small enough for personal contact with colleagues from a wide variety of disciplines.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology teaching takes place each Wednesday afternoon. There is a regular rota for teaching and the audit sessions. There is a multidisciplinary mortality and morbidity meeting held every month.
The appointment is a whole time appointment. The appointment will be to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
The post holder will be managerially accountable to the Clinical Director of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Junior Medical Staff should ensure that only 2 members of each rota is on leave at one time. Approval for leave is at the discretion of the relevant Consultants and is department on continuity of patient care.
