Mechanical Maintenance Technician Job Purpose: To ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of mechanical equipment and systems by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician helps minimise downtime, extend equipment life, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the facility. Key Responsibilities 1. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Carry out scheduled inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacements. Record all maintenance activities in maintenance database. Perform vibration analysis, thermal checks, and other condition-monitoring tasks where required. 2. Troubleshooting & Repairs Diagnose mechanical faults in machinery such as pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, motors, compressors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems. Repair or replace defective parts (bearings, seals, belts, couplings, shafts, etc.). Use appropriate tools (manual, powered, and diagnostic equipment). 3. Equipment Installation & Commissioning Install new equipment and systems according to technical drawings and specifications. Align shafts, install couplings, balance rotating equipment, and verify mechanical tolerances. Assist in commissioning and testing of machinery. 4. Safety & Compliance Adhere to all health and safety regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and workplace standards. Identify hazards and contribute to risk assessments. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. 5. Documentation & Reporting Complete maintenance reports, parts usage logs, and breakdown analysis. Maintain accurate equipment records in the maintenance smartsheet. Communicate equipment status and issues to supervisors and production teams. 6. Continuous Improvement Suggest and implement improvements to enhance equipment reliability. Support lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, Kaizen, Gemba). Qualifications & Experience Essential Recognized mechanical engineering/maintenance qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent). Proven experience in industrial or mechanical maintenance. Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment. Desirable Experience in a specific industry (manufacturing) Basic electrical knowledge (advantageous). Certification in forklift, or MEWP operation. Key Skills & Competencies Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics Good communication and teamwork skills Practical knowledge of safety protocols (LOTO, permit systems) Attention to detail and high-quality workmanship Ability to work under pressure during breakdowns Time management and prioritization Computer literacy (for reporting in the maintenance smartsheet) Work Environment Industrial/manufacturing facility Mix of workshop-based and on-floor maintenance May require working shifts, weekends, or on-call rotation Physical work involving lifting, climbing, and confined spaces Performance Indicators Equipment uptime and reliability Response time to breakdowns Completion of PM tasks on schedule Quality and accuracy of documentation Compliance with safety procedures Contribution to continuous improvement initiatives LI-DNI Join us and work with global teams to support global customers !
