Job overview
The Environment Agency is recruiting a fixed-term Senior Advisor for the energy sectors (up to 2 years). The role involves working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries, to ensure environmental protection and climate resilience as the UK progresses toward Net Zero.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents as part of ongoing operations; be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Team and context
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation within the Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. We define standards for the energy sectors and provide guidance and training to deliver new duties, with a focus on environmental best practice. E&B uses evidence, expertise and innovation to influence policy, legislation and resource allocation.
Experience/skills required
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and to encourage consideration of diversity in work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, gained by experience in or regulating relevant processes; knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
