Senior IT Systems Administrator – Calgary, AB. Located in downtown Calgary and reporting to the I.T. Manager, you are a customer‑focused senior IT Systems Administrator responsible for incident management, service requests, maintenance, and projects supporting Shareworks by Morgan Stanley’s enterprise datacentre infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure reliable, efficient operation of production datacentre infrastructure and services with a 24x7x365 uptime requirement.
* Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain datacentre infrastructure.
* Perform network strategic design, discovery, and documentation, including logical and physical diagrams.
* Work under minimal supervision, self‑directed.
* Influence and lead others, train and mentor less‑experienced engineers.
* Seek opportunities to increase internal client satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
* Perform daily maintenance and monitoring of LAN/WAN services per established procedures.
* Partner with development and web operations teams to meet organisational goals, identify solutions to problems, and proactively seek improvements in reliability and system performance.
* Identify opportunities for efficiencies, make recommendations, and assist with implementing improvements.
* Lead teams implementing large‑scale IT initiatives.
* Enterprise Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy, planning, and implementation experience.
Preferred Qualifications
* BSc in Computer Science or related engineering field.
* 15+ years of increasingly responsible IT infrastructure administration in datacentre/SaaS architectures within a DevOps/Agile framework.
* Strong background in enterprise‑class network administration (Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto).
* 10+ years of hands‑on experience administering datacentre infrastructure and complex cross‑functional projects for mid‑ to large‑scale technology companies.
* Experience recommending new enterprise‑class technologies and processes that improve customer service and reduce operating costs.
* In‑depth technical understanding of all major functional areas of IT (networking, compute, and storage).
* 15+ years of Linux systems administration (Red Hat).
* 10+ years of Oracle database administration.
* 10+ years of VMware virtualization technologies (vSphere, Operations Manager, vCenter, NSX, vSAN, etc.).
* 10+ years of firewall and VPN design and implementation (e.g., Juniper SRX).
* 10+ years of data storage solutions administration.
* 5+ years of enterprise security/Information Security administration and management (Cyber Defense, Pen‑Testing, Digital Forensics, Incident Response).
* Knowledge of infrastructure and datacentre monitoring software (PRTG, Sensu).
* Microsoft Windows Server administration (2008/2012/2016).
* Collaboration services (Confluence, SharePoint, Microsoft CRM, IPS/IDS).
* Backup, deduplication and replication technologies (Quantum, EMC DataDomain).
* Experience with VLANs, VTP, and network protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF).
* Experience with RAID solutions, 3rd‑party file systems, distributed file system architectures (NFS, AFS, DFS).
* Experience with IBM SAN storage, IBM System X, Lenovo Flex System Enterprise Chassis.
* Knowledge of fibre‑channel storage arrays, hosts, switches, software, and storage networking infrastructure.
* Application and process automation using Ansible.
