Fixed Term Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

The aim is to appoint a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in antenatal care and bereavement services to join the established team at University Hospitals Sussex (UHSussex). This is a 12‑month fixed‑term post for a Secondment Cover, and we are seeking a capable and enthusiastic colleague who will contribute to high‑quality general O&G services while supporting the continued development of antenatal and bereavement care during the contract period.
Main duties of the job
* Run antenatal and general gynaecology outpatient clinics.
* Undertake inpatient theatre lists and day‑case gynaecology operating sessions.
* Support the development of bereavement services at UHSussex, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
* Contribute to the development of gynaecology services, including the pelvic pain service.
* Undertake and further develop outpatient ultrasound scanning and outpatient hysteroscopy procedures.
* Lead and develop the fetal wellbeing service at PRH, ensuring high‑quality, patient‑centred care.
* Participate in the on‑call rota for obstetrics and gynaecology.
* Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education and supervision, including support for ATSM and SITM trainees where relevant.
* Be actively involved in service development and innovation, supporting continuous improvement across maternity and gynaecology services.
* Engage with and support ongoing research themes and projects within the department.
* Contribute to complaint and incident management, clinical governance activities, and associated clinical administration.

Person Specification
Experience / Qualifications
* MRCOG or its recognised equivalent.
* Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.
* If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
* If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
* Higher Degree.
* BASOL ATSM / Gynaecology Surgical Care SITM.
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Expertise and skills in gynaecological procedures including outpatient hysteroscopy.
* Expertise and skills in general gynaecology.
* Gynaecology scanning experience.
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.
Organisation and Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams.
* Understanding of NHS / clinical governance / resource constraints.
* Evidence of managerial skills: achievements / course attended.
Teaching Skills
* Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching.
* Recognised teaching qualification.
