Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Lead Artist (Outsourcing) to guide and manage external art production for our mobile Minecraft project. This role sits between Art Direction, internal teams, and external partners. Your goal: make sure outsourced art meets our visual quality, technical needs, and production timelines. The role is open to artists with a 2D and 3D background. You will help translate art direction into clear briefs, review incoming assets, and maintain strong quality across a growing external pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage art production with external studios and freelance partners.
* Write clear art briefs and documentation for outsourced assets.
* Review outsourced deliveries and provide actionable feedback.
* Ensure assets match our visual direction and quality bar.
* Maintain consistency with the project’s cute, quirky, and polished tone.
* Track asset progress and flag risks early.
* Help scale production without lowering visual quality.
* Contribute to improving outsourcing workflows and documentation.
Collaboration and Integration
* Work closely with Art Direction to maintain visual consistency.
* Work with the Product Manager (PM) to act as a creative partner while tracking schedules, priorities, and vendor deliveries.
* Coordinate with internal artists across characters, environments, UI, and VFX.
* Align with Design and Tech teams to ensure assets integrate correctly.
* Communicate clearly with external partners across time zones and cultures.
* Support production by anticipating asset needs and planning ahead.
Required Skills and Experience
* Strong artistic background in 2D and 3D game art.
* Experience with Unity.
* Experience managing outsourced art production.
* Previous experience leading external art teams or vendors.
* Ability to give clear, constructive visual feedback.
* Strong understanding of stylized game art pipelines.
* Experience working with asset tracking and production tools.
* Strong communication skills across internal and external teams.
* Good sense of visual consistency, readability, and quality control.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working on casual or mobile games.
* Familiarity with Minecraft visual language and stylization.
* Experience reviewing assets across multiple disciplines (characters, environments, UI, props).
* Comfort working with both 2D and 3D pipelines.
