A National Property Consultancy is seeking a Senior Chartered Surveyor to join its Business Rates team in Birmingham. The role involves managing a varied and high‑quality caseload, delivering valuation, appeals, and advisory work for regional and national occupier and landlord clients, while supporting and mentoring junior team members. You will play a key role in client engagement, portfolio strategy, and complex rating matters, with the opportunity to further develop your profile within a growing and well‑established regional practice.
Main Duties
* Manage and deliver a diverse Business Rates caseload, including valuation, appeals, and advisory instructions, with minimal supervision.
* Lead on the preparation and submission of Check/Challenge/Appeal (CCA) and Proposal/Appeal cases, including complex and high‑value assessments.
* Undertake property inspections, measurement, and analysis across a broad range of commercial property types.
* Analyse and interpret rental evidence, cost data, comparative evidence, and valuation tone to support robust rating strategies.
* Act as a key point of contact for clients, providing clear, commercially focused advice and regular updates.
* Liaise and negotiate with the Valuation Office Agency, Assessors, and Local Authority Rates Teams.
* Support senior colleagues on large occupier portfolios and portfolio‑wide reviews, contributing to strategic advice and recommendations.
* Assist in the mentoring and development of junior surveyors, providing technical guidance and support as required.
* Ensure high standards of file management, compliance, and quality control.
* Contribute to market research, thought leadership, and internal knowledge‑sharing initiatives.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across advisory disciplines to deliver integrated client solutions.
* Actively support and promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working environment.
* MRICS qualified with demonstrable post‑qualification experience in Business Rates.
* Strong technical expertise in rating valuation and appeals, including CCA processes.
* Proven ability to manage a complex caseload and prioritise effectively.
* Confident client‑facing communicator, both written and verbal.
* Commercially aware with a solutions‑focused approach to advisory work.
* Strong analytical, numerical, and valuation skills.
* Collaborative team player with the ability to mentor and support junior colleagues.
* Well organised, proactive, and capable of working autonomously.
