Job Description
Help the Environment Agency achieve its 2050 vision of cleaner, thriving waters by applying technical expertise in marine environments, data analysis and modelling to support evidence‑based decisions. The role is based nationally from the EA Office and offers flexible/hybrid working.
Location & Employment
National role – EA Office base; flexible/hybrid working. There are three Water Quality Officer positions: one permanent and one fixed‑term (6 months).
Key Responsibilities
* Review complex reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Use data to inform and validate water quality models.
* Summarise and communicate technical work and raise challenges when needed.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use initiative to contribute to the work of the team and broader organisation.
* Deliver incident response duties as part of the role, with full training and support.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; professional membership desirable.
* Experience in data analysis and knowledge of modelling software.
* Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS, Mike, Cormix or similar.
* Strong communication skills: able to present technical information to non‑technical audiences.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and willing to travel for national meetings.
* Training and development opportunities will be provided.
