Job summary
A very exciting and new opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Consultant to join our Health and Justice Service, to clinically lead and provide high quality nursing care across the HMP Full Sutton and HMP Millsike prison Mental Health Teams.
HMP Full Sutton is a part of the Long Term High Secure prison estate, housing adult male sentenced prisoners. HMP Millsike is a new prison, built next door to Full Sutton. Millsike is a category C male prison.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced registered Nurse with extensive skills and knowledge of delivering psychologically-informed and compassionate care to individuals involved with the criminal justice system.
As Nurse Consultant, you will provide clinical leadership and direction in mental health assessment and treatment, delivering highly specialist care to patients with severe mental health conditions or learning disabilities, including challenging behaviors. You will also offer expert advice, supervision, and training to colleagues and partner organizations, and contribute to research and development projects.
You will be supported by the Associate Director of Nursing and Service Managers, with opportunities for supervision and professional development.
Main duties of the job
Develop prison-based clinical pathways and treatment delivery across Health & Justice Services, providing high quality, compassion-focused care.
Work within a specialized clinical area requiring strategic thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional autonomy, and critical judgment.
Lead on working with individuals with complex mental health issues, learning disabilities, trauma, and deliver specialist psychological therapies.

The Nurse Consultant will collaborate with clinical leadership, operational teams, and stakeholders to ensure a recovery-focused service, improving patient experience and outcomes. The role offers opportunities for clinical and leadership development, being a key member of the senior leadership team within the H&J Service.
Applicants must hold RNLD or RNMH registration with the NMC, an independent and supplementary nurse prescribing certificate, and a Master’s degree or equivalent, with evidence of ongoing professional development. Training in psychological therapy is required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and the ability to work independently, providing senior nursing expertise, leading clinical practice, and contributing to quality improvements and service development.
