Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to assist the existing team to provide a comprehensive Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) service to the Trust. The role involves in-patient and out-patient work and participation in a Monday to Friday on-call rota.
On-call and rota details
The on-call rota includes 1 day/evening per week and 1 in 4 Fridays (day only until 5.00pm) with prospective cover. The unit closes at 5pm on Fridays until 9am on Mondays, and weekend cover is provided by the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. No weekend on-call is required.
Organisation context
The ENT Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital presently operates as a fully independent unit during the week; at weekends the unit is closed to admissions and patients are treated in Norwich. The role supports the delivery of a comprehensive general ENT service and contributes to the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme.
Responsibilities
* Assist in delivering a comprehensive ENT service for in-patient and out-patient care.
* Be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme, including active participation in clinical audit, quality improvement, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.
* Collaborate with other departments and external agencies as required to support the ENT service objectives.
* Engage in on-going service development in the context of ongoing transformation projects (e.g., electronic patient record implementation).
Organisational context and opportunities
We are at a time of significant development, including plans to open a new state-of-the-art hospital in 2030 and a major digital transformation programme. The new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper records from 2026 to improve safety and continuity of care across The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.
