Main duties of the job
1. To take a key role in the delivery, development and evaluation of the Pharmaceutical Service provided to Divisional Teams and Clinical Service Units (CSU); to meet the requirements of pharmacy customers in accordance with pharmaceutical legislation, national guidance and departmental objectives. This post will be rotational (normally 12 months)
2. To facilitate and support the efficient and cost effective use of medicines across the Trust
3. To deputise, with appropriate support, for the Principal Pharmacists at meetings and in delivery of training within their assigned areas of pharmaceutical care
4. To provide ward-based clinical pharmacy services, working alongside our other specialist pharmacists and technicians, and supporting pharmacists and technicians and trainees. To provide or work towards a role as an independent prescriber
5. To work with the Principal Pharmacists and Pharmacy managers, to ensure that policies and procedures for medicines use are followed and are consistent with Trust requirements and priorities
6. To comply with Trust and Pharmacy Procedures, Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance and Risk Management

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
At an organisational level, we are keen to embrace technology and the digital agenda to enhance working practices and have a well established electronic patient record which incorporates a full electronic prescribing and medicines administration system.
At a departmental level, we have been fortunate to receive significant investment in recent years, which in addition to growing our team, has led to a major departmental refurbishment, the replacement of our Pharmacy Robot, the creation of a new Pharmacy and Aseptic Unit in the Cancer Centre, and the opening of a new Outpatient Pharmacy.
Our services are evolving to provide our Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians with more time to work alongside patients while supporting our medical and nursing colleagues. This role is a compelling career opportunity for a skilled and dedicated pharmacist to join our hardworking, forward-looking, and innovative pharmacy team. It would be ideal for a newly qualified pharmacists looking for an opportunity to develop their career within a hospital setting. You will join our team in a Band 6 role and following the successful completion of your probationary period you will agree a number of objectives with your line manager and the Pharmacy Education Team which you will need to achieve in order to progress into a Band 7 role; these objectives will include both workplace tasks and self-directed learning with a suitable academic education programme.
You will become part of a growing team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians who support patient care across a wide range of clinical specialties within the Trust. With the support of our Specialist Clinical Pharmacists and our Principal Pharmacists across a range of clinical specialities, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. In addition to delivering ward-based pharmaceutical care and providing clinical support to the dispensary, you will have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of medicines optimisation and medicines safety activities as part of your wider medicines management role.
This role is crucial to the delivery, development, and evaluation of pharmaceutical services across the hospital. It plays a key part in helping divisions optimise medicines use within available resources.
Our standard working hours now consist of four long days (8 am to 6.30 pm) per week; Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays are worked on a rota basis. After a period of induction and training, you will contribute to the pharmacy out-of-hours service.
