Job Title: Senior Cleaner
The Department of Biochemistry, part of the School of the Biological Sciences, is seeking an enthusiastic and efficient individual to join our Domestic Services team as a Senior Cleaner. This key role supports departmental operations and involves leading by example.
Location and Reporting
Based in a busy professional services team, reporting to the Facilities Superintendent, the successful candidate will work alongside a dedicated team of domestic support specialists to uphold the Department's reputation for excellence in teaching and research.
Working Hours
Start time is between 6am and 7am. The role requires an individual who can lead and oversee others, work collaboratively and independently, and maintain a flexible, friendly attitude.
Communication Skills
Applicants should have good oral communication skills, a high standard of English, and the ability to give and receive instructions, including safety instructions regarding cleaning chemicals.
Responsibilities
1. Thorough cleaning of all areas, including research laboratories, offices, teaching and meeting rooms, communal areas, stairways, WCs, and washrooms.
2. Participate in the collection, cleaning, and return of laboratory glassware.
Qualifications and Experience
A good general education (e.g., GCSE/NVQ Level 2) or equivalent practical experience is required. Experience in laboratory and/or office cleaning, including the use of mechanical scrubber/polishing equipment, is essential.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate should be physically fit and enjoy an active, varied workload.
