Theatre Practitioner - Registered Nurse or ODP
Join the Day Surgery team at Torbay Hospital as a Theatre Practitioner. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high‑quality care to patients undergoing day‑case surgery.
Job Summary
As a registered Theatre Practitioner (either NMC or AHP Registered), you will be responsible for peri‑operative patient care, coordination of theatre activities, and support of the operating list. You will work in an environment that values patient safety, professional development, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality, patient‑focused care throughout the peri‑operative stage.
* Maintain a safe environment for all patients attending theatres.
* Co‑ordinate and carry out peri‑operative care with minimal supervision, acting as a role model and working with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Collaborate with other professionals to ensure safe, efficient service and patient safety throughout theatre operations.
* Develop effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, relatives, and nursing staff to provide clear, accurate information.
* Perform manual handling of patients and equipment, ensuring accuracy and physical/clinical skill where required.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
* Post‑registration theatre experience and/or qualification (desirable).
Essential Experience & Skills
* IT skills and ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Able to work as a member of a team, with organisational and leadership skills.
* Experience in theatres and day‑surgery pathway knowledge.
Desirable
* Evidence of continuous education and professional development.
* Mentorship qualification.
* Day surgery pathway knowledge of pathway and DSU specialties (desirable).
Pay & Contract
Permanent, part‑time, Band 5. Salary £31,049 to £37,796 per annum.
Location
Torbay Hospital, Newton Road, Torquay, TQ2 7AA.
