Job Description
The Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of a variety of engineering projects, as delegated by the Programme Manager. The PM provides disciplined, repeatable project management output, supported by a sound understanding of military and maritime engineering practices. This role is customer-facing and also involves proactive business development.
The Project Manager plays a crucial role in creating and maintaining focus, enthusiasm, and momentum, ensuring the overall integrity and coherence of project requirements, and delivering successfully within time, cost, and quality constraints.
Duties: The Project Manager is responsible for:
1. Planning, maintaining, and delivering effective projects, proactively monitoring and influencing progress, resolving issues, and initiating corrective actions.
2. Ensuring effective time, cost, and quality controls throughout the project lifecycle, focusing on project consistency and alignment with STS Defence strategy, as well as coherence with customer expectations and standards.
3. Facilitating and managing the output of individuals in Integrated Project Teams.
4. Ensuring sufficient resources and skills are available for project activities.
5. Managing communications with all internal and external stakeholders.
6. Managing risks and issues that may impact project outcomes.
7. Initiating training, skills development, and recruitment as needed based on resource gaps.
8. Reporting project progress at regular intervals to the Programme Manager.
9. Proactively identifying and exploiting new business development opportunities.
Skills/Qualifications: The Project Manager should possess:
* Effective leadership, management, interpersonal, and communication skills, preferably with a recognized accreditation.
* The ability to command respect and foster a sense of community within project teams.
* A strong understanding of military and maritime engineering standards and requirements.
* Knowledge and experience in planning, monitoring, and controlling projects.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce all project documentation.
* Sound knowledge of project management methodologies such as MSP, PRINCE2, APM, Change Management, and MoR.
* Proven experience in budget management and control, ideally with familiarity with the SAGE system.
