Hays Health & Safety are recruiting for a proactive and hands-on Safety, Health & Environmental Officer to join a leading manufacturing business at their site in Wigan.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, this role is pivotal in driving forward a positive safety culture, challenging outdated practices, and empowering site teams to take ownership of Health and Safety.
A perfect role for somebody who has 1–2 years' experience working in a Health & Safety role in the manufacturing/engineering setting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support the implementation and development of site SHE practices
2. Work closely with site management to deliver necessary action plans
3. Monitor and report on SHE KPI's and report any necessary corrective actions
4. Promote a strong behavioural safety culture and encourage openmunication around SHE-related matters
5. Assist in the implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001pliance standards
6. Conduct RAMS, Audits and incident investigations
7. Champion a culture of safety ownership, encouraging incident reporting and near misses and using the data to mitigate future risk
Candidate Profile
8. A NEBOSH National General Certificate is essential
9. Experience or a qualification in supporting environmental standards is desirable
10. Experience in manufacturing or warehouse environments
11. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels
12. Organised, process-driven, and confident in managingpeting priorities
13. Skilled in risk assessment, problem-solving, and internal auditing
14. A naturalmunicator who listens to frontline teams and translates safety requirements into practical, relatable actions.
15. Someone who challenges the “we’ve always done it this way” mindset and fosters a culture of openness and accountability.
