As a Junior Underwriter, you’ll play an important role in supporting lending decisions and helping us deliver a great experience for our members. Day‑to‑day, you’ll:
* Help deliver fair, responsible, and consistent lending decisions
* Accurately record and verify all information, ensuring loan documentation and supporting evidence are complete, factual, and compliant with regulatory and internal standards.
* Prepare comprehensive case files by compiling financial assessments, cross‑checking documentation, and highlighting key risks or considerations for final review.
* Work proactively with the Underwriters to ensure consistency in loan decisioning across the portfolio and to identify improvements to the loan application process.
* Identify, investigate, and elevate potential indicators of fraud, ensuring robust prevention practices are applied throughout the loan assessment process.
* Work in partnership with internal teams across the Credit Union to ensure a seamless and positive experience for members throughout the loan journey.
Requirements

* Has excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent eye for detail.
* Is self‑motivated and well organised; able to multi‑task and manage own workload; able to work on own initiative and deliver agreed measures.
* Is analytical; able to think clearly under pressure; able to analyse data and present it clearly; able to prioritise work.
* Has evidence of numerical ability and is proficient in Microsoft Office.
* Has a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a lending environment; proven experience in customer service.
* Has evidence of understanding and ability to communicate in English.
* Has an understanding of Debt Management Plans and Insolvency.
* Is ager to learn and develop in a financial services environment

Hybrid working is available for all employees, with a minimum 3 days at our offices in Birmingham (between 9am and 4:30pm) and the rest from home if you prefer.
