Job Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced operations professional to join Internal Audit (IA) as a Senior audit manager (SAM). The role delivers audits focused on safety and operational risk management across bp's global Production and Refining operations.
You will design and oversee audits addressing key major accident hazard and life changing injury risk controls—such as control of work, asset integrity, process safety, management of change, and incident investigation—drawing on your deep technical knowledge and frontline experience in high hazard operations under OMS or an equivalent system.
You will partner with audit leads to scope, plan, and deliver high-quality audits and provide impactful insights to senior leaders and the board. You will also help shape the annual operational risk audit plan and contribute to continuous improvement across IA.
The role provides opportunities to broaden your exposure to bp's global operations and strengthen your audit, relationship management, and leadership capabilities while helping protect people and assets.
This is a UK Sunbury based role (60:40 hybrid) with ~15% global travel, including offshore.
What you will do...
* Deliver a global portfolio of operational risk audits at Production and Refining sites and engage senior parties.
* Coach audit leads and teams through audit scoping, planning, delivery, and reporting.
* Deliver concise audit reports that highlight material control gaps.
* Build strong relationships, listen with empathy, and maintain independence on issues.
* Line manage staff, role model bp values, and support development, coaching, and capability building.
* Champion digital adoption including IA tooling, learning culture, and continuous improvement.
What you will bring...
Essential criteria:
* Degree in a discipline relevant to operating high hazard operations e.g., chemical/process, mechanical, etc. Professional engineering status preferred OR equivalent experience.
* Extensive frontline experience leading teams operating/maintaining high hazard facilities (e.g., Production/Refining).
* Comprehensive understanding, and application of OMS
* Strong writing, listening, communication, and influencing skills; proven at a senior level.
* Experience leading, developing and motivating a diverse, dispersed team - a self-directed leader and supportive teammate, committed to developing people and fostering inclusion.
Desirable criteria:
* Experience with applying and promoting artificial intelligence tools in service of business efficiency and effectiveness would be an advantage.
* Audit, assurance, or self-verification experience (audit training will be provided).
* Strong organisational and strategic problem-solving skills with adaptability.
* Demonstrated ability leading change or continuous improvement.
